General Transportation Aids programs received the bulk of the payments at $104.91 million. These funds are designed to help “defray the costs of constructing, maintaining and operating roads and streets under local jurisdication.”
These payments broke down in the following for the five regions of the state:
Connecting Highway Aids programs reached $3.02 million, with the funds used to reimburse municipalities for traffic control and maintenance of state highways within their area. Milwaukee County was the sole recipient of $255,975 for Expressway Policing Aids.
This calendar year local governments will be distributed roughly $419 million from the state’s transportation fund for building and maintaining local bridges and roads.
