According to KIII News, Texas Department of Transportation contract worker Justin Mazone was weed eating grass in the center median on Highway 181 in Corpus Christi when a Nissan Sentra drove into the median.
The car struck and killed Mazone before hitting a concrete barrier and several guard posts.
Roman Alexander, the 21-year-old driver, fled the scene along the access road, but was followed by a witness until police arrived where the car had broken down.
Alexander told police that he hit a guardrail but couldn’t explain the smashed windshield or the blood inside the vehicle.
He was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and accident involving death.
