Modern truck demands giving rise to AGM batteries

Tasked with supporting everything from starting the engine to powering auxiliary devices, batteries are a critical and heavily stressed part of a truck.

With more demands being placed on the electrical system through added sensors, cameras and collision mitigation radar, more companies are seeing the advantage of absorbed glass mat (AGM) batteries and the overall trade-off with their price and longevity, said Jeff Barron, research lab manager for Interstate Batteries.

Liebherr 42 M5 XXT concrete pump features Powerbloc drive that can be replaced in 2.5 hours

The new Liebherr 42 M5 XXT truck-mounted concrete pump debuts the company’s Powerbloc drive unit, which it says combines the best features of open and closed hydraulic systems. Liebherr unveiled the pump at the World of Concrete this week in Las Vegas.

Liebherr explains the Powerbloc drive unit this way: most concrete pumps use alternating pistons that drive cups to move concrete through a boom. The pistons, in turn, are connected to hydraulic cylinders that are powered with high pressure oil, which provides the energy to pump concrete.

Mack unveils MD6 and MD7 in return to medium duty trucks

Mack’s new medium duty entries – the Class 6 MD6 and Class 7 MD7 – unlocks new over the road segments for the truck maker.

The Mack MD6 has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 25,995 pounds, and the MD7 model has a GVWR of 33,000 pounds. Both are exempt from the 12% Federal Excise Tax (FET).

GMC Teases Electric Hummer: Pickup with monster specs will be unveiled later this year

GMC will be reintroducing its iconic Hummer as an electric pickup.

During the recent Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, GMC ran an ad teasing a new, electrified version of the Hummer and a full unveiling slated for May 20.
